An excellent collection from some of the brightest writers today

Dennis Waller, filmmaker and author of several books, is recognized as an expert on spiritual experience, self-discovery, and exploring the human consciousness. He is also a Top 500 Amazon Reviewer, which is an amazing rank. I am honored that he posted this review for the new multi-author boxed set, At Odds with Destiny:

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a tremendous box set of works from some of my favorite authors, Uvi Poznansky, Christoph Fischer, Brandt Legg, and Janet Morris. There is a massive amount of reading here, with 10 novels, it will take some time to finish this box set and for the price, it's a give-away.

Rise To Power by Uvi Poznansky is a sensational novel matched only by The Luck of the Weissensteiners by Christoph Fischer and Outview by Brandt Legg. Tempus by Janet Morris is a great one too. The variety here is phenomenal, from intrigue and mystery, to gut wrenching, to fantasy, one thing is consistent, the quality.

Overall, "At Odds with Destiny" is an incredible value and that should be on everybody's Kindle. An excellent collection from some of the brightest writers today that can't be missed.

It don’t make no sense to hunger so bad for a change

So half nude I rush to the kitchen, and bring a kitchen knife and cut through the flap of the box, and there—to my surprise—lays a bottle of Rosé Champagne, flanked by two stemmed glasses, the kind you can stack in layers to build them champagne towers, like the one we had at our wedding.
At first, my bet is that this is a gift from my husband—who else—which takes my breath away, it’s so cool, so awesome, especially because I haven’t gotten nothing from him lately.
So I twist my hips walking up to him, and snatch one of them glasses and put it in place, right over my left breast. Before I got pregnant, and become so full of curves, it would have been a perfect fit—but now, not so much.
Then, just before opening my mouth to ask him to uncork the bottle, I realize my mistake.
“Take it off, take that thing off right now, right this minute,” he stammers, and his forehead curves down over him even heavier and more wrinkled than before. I can’t even blame him, or no one, ‘cause really, I reckon it’s too late for us.
So without saying a word I obey him, and remove the glass from my heart, and watch him, again in silence, as he rummages through the box in search of a note, or something. Which he finds, finally, down there at the bottom. In square, printed letters the note reads simply, “To Anita.”
No return address, no signature, no date, nothing.
The old man looks long and hard into my eyes, like he’s searching for answers, not exactly sure if to punish me, like I was a naughty school girl, or to send me back home to my ma. After a while he figures he can’t do neither, so he just turns his back on me, and punches the box so it can collapse on itself, and stuffs it in the garbage can, along with the uncorked bottle and them two glasses. Then he goes to the bathroom, and the water starts running for his shower.

I try not to be angry, or hurt. I sit there in the dark, and wait. I can’t tell exactly what it is I’m waiting for.
So, Rewind. Record.
What is there to say? I reckon it’s stupid, it don’t make no sense to hunger so bad for a change. Still... It’s a strange feeling, knowing that someone out there is playing with a thought about me, daring me to risk everything I’ve got, like, this marriage, this shelter for my baby and me—all for nothing. For a bottle of champagne.
The water’s still running in the shower, wisps of vapor escaping as far as here in the living room. By now the glass door is all steamed out, so the balcony out there, which is facing ours, is pretty much washed out, and you can’t see the wintery sky no more, and you can’t even tell that it’s moonless. And like, everything is suddenly nothing but a guess—except for one thing:
I swear, I must be crazy. I know I am, ‘cause the only path to see clear out of this place is through what I write here, into the steam, on the cold, hard surface, with my finger.
Ben.

Anita's voice is special. You would be hard-pressed to find a three-syllable word in anything she says. The lack of long words is compensated by descriptive sequence of short words. You can spot a liberal use of the dreaded double-negative, and of the word ‘like’. In the excerpt she describes the memory of her first kiss with Lenny. Some readers told me, tongue-in-cheek, that the would need a cold shower by the time she completes her story. But one reader found the style of the excerpt incosistent. He complained that at times Anita is lyrical, and at other times her thoughts are expressed in slang.

In shaping her voice I asked myself: even if your grammar is atrocious, even if your vocabulary is somewhat lacking, does that mean you can't feel the throes of pain, or the exhilaration of joy? Does it mean you can't paint what you see, feel and think?

Twisted collection

Born in Potsdam, Germany, Gisela Sedimayer has a love for the written word. Having moved to New Zealand and then to Austria, and having fought her cancer with the best weapon--creativity--she is the author of the Talon series, bringing the story and the characters to life over the course of several years. I am thrilled to find her review of my book, Twisted:

5.0 out of 5 stars Twisted collection, March 8, 2015

This review is from: Twisted (Kindle Edition)

What a unique collection by Uvi Poznansky. The tales are laden with mystery and macabre.

The first story: A dead woman lost her name and was looking for her name. She always said, “I am what I am”. It was inspired by the Biblical story of Job. It really spoke to me how Job’s wife must have felt, when Job lost everything.

The next stories: I woman. The Hollow and The One who Never Leaves. The stories are about, as the first one, of a dead woman, a cat and about Satan sticking his horns where they don’t belong.

Each story spoke individually to me but took me into an amazing and unexpected direction and spin around a hyper reality and course. It was amazing how Uvi’s mind is working, but left me thinking twice again.

I have to say, I have never read a story so mysterious and macabre and unique. But again, I enjoyed each story, because each story had something to tell and gave a message and left me thinking.

I won’t go deeper into each story, you better read the book.

The awakening of your senses as well as your appetite

Lately, despite being an intensely private person, I have found myself increasingly engaged with readers and listeners. Why? because of my characters. Having sprung from my mind onto the page, they might die there, pressed between the front and back covers–unless I make it possible for them to spring from the page to your mind.
I thrive on reaching out to my audience. Every day I discover new ways to create this connection and strengthen it. By far the best way is forging alliances with other authors, whose work is of outstanding quality and whose audience appreciates creativity. To this end I review fellow authors on my blog, which is my way of recognizing their talent. I organize author events on Facebook to showcase our work. I read a lot of novels, note their reviews, and actively seek out book recommendations, all of which allows me to choose the best and the brightest for the most ambitious team project I created to date: a boxed set titled At Odds with Destiny.
My vision for this project is to bring together four authors and offer you a selection of great novels that cross boundaries in terms of genre. I am so glad that put together, our stories invite you to explore. And so–whether you are a young adult or young at heart, whether you enjoy the thrill of adventure or the immersion into the character’s stream of conscience, and whether you want to be swept away to distant times and places or to see contemporary settings with sharper clarity–you will find a story here to your liking, and then some! This project is meant to celebrate excellence in writing.
At Odds with Destiny is like an assortment of chocolates. Relish the work of the author you enjoy, and then taste new, unfamiliar flavors. The more you take in, the more you’ll feel the awakening of your senses as well as your appetite.

A masterpiece!

Mary Ann Vitale is the author of lovely children's books. I am thrilled to find her review of my novel, A Peek at Bathsheba:

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece!, March 2, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Peek at Bathsheba (The David Chronicles Book 2) (Kindle Edition)
A Peek at Bathsheba is a great book that truly surprised me, I didn't know what to expect. It brings to life that particular Bible book of King David. The king goes through his turmoil, hopes, mistakes, passion, and love for Bathsheba. There are wars, blood shed, betrayals, and peace plans. He makes it clear what his role is as king. He has humor. I laughed at the remark made comparing a woman to a fruit. The book is written in a contemporary style, making us aware of the similar questions, mistakes, we share in our modern world. I love the author's poetic style!
